2024-2025 Coaches

Ethan Tong
(Private Coach)
Ethan Tong ('19 alumnus) qualified to Nationals in Moot Court both years he competed, earning an 8th place Oral Advocate award at the 2019 National Championship. He and his partner were the top seed at the 2019 Dallas National Mixer, at which he won a 2nd place Oral Advocate award. He and his partner also placed 2nd at the Illinois National Mixer that same year.

In the last three years, Ethan has qualified fifteen Moot Court teams to the National Championship, with his teams placing 7th, 5th, 2nd (twice) and 1st. Four of his private students have won 1st place Oral Advocate awards throughout the year, and 9 of them have won top 6 Oral Advocate awards at Nationals. Additionally, he co-authored NCFCA's 2023-2024 Moot Court packet.

Ethan graduated from Hillsdale College, where he garnered outstanding attorney and outstanding witness awards in Mock Trial. Currently, he is pursuing a Master's of Divinity at Truett Theological Seminary.
Hannah Cavanaugh (Private Coach)
Hannah Cavanaugh (‘23 alumna) competed in Moot Court for 4 years. During her junior season, she and her partner made semis at 2 tournaments and won the final qualifier of the season. In her final season, she and her partner were in finals at 3 out of the 4 qualifiers, winning 2, and eventually going on to win the 2023 National Championship in Moot Court. In addition, Hannah placed in the top 3 Individual Oral Advocates in every qualifier during the 2023 season and 7th at the National Championship. Since graduating, Hannah coached 2 teams to the National Championship, who placed 5th and 3rd respectively. In addition, she coached the 1st and 2nd place 2024 Individual Oral Advocates.

Hannah is currently a junior at Regent University studying American Government and Politics. There she competes on Regent’s varsity Moot Court and Mock Trial teams. In her first season, she advanced to the AMCA National Championship with her partner, placing 23rd
in the country.
Jason Chahyadi
(2024 Camp Only)
Jason Chahyadi ('21 alumnus) is a senior at Patrick Henry College studying government. There, he is a member of the college's Moot Court Varsity team. This past season, he and his partner were finalists at the AMCA National Championship. In a nationwide league where over 470 undergraduate teams competed, he finished as the 5th best orator in the nation. Jason and his partner went 16-3 last season, finishing as quarter-finalists at the Pre-National tournament and finalists in both their regional qualifier and the National Championship. Additionally, Jason won "Top Orator" awards at all three of the tournaments he competed at last season.

Jason loves to coach students in public speaking and moot court through building confidence and sharpening arguments. In his free time, he enjoys listening and playing music, exploring the outdoors, and watching college football.
Patrick McDonald
(2024 Camp Only)
Patrick McDonald (‘22 alumnus) was a four-time National Champion, winning After Dinner, Extemporaneous, Persuasive, and Moot Court at the 2022 NCFCA Championship. 

He and his partner qualified to nationals in Moot Court both years they competed. His senior year, he and his partner won the second Moot Court Qualifier, where he won 3rd place Oral Advocate. They went on to win the 2022 National Championship in Moot Court, and Patrick garnered a 5th place Oral Advocate. Patrick also won 3 other events at the National championship––Extemporaneous, Persuasive, and After Dinner Speaking.

Patrick is a junior at Hillsdale College, studying history and politics. He was the first freshman in Hillsdale College history to be awarded All-Regional and All-National outstanding attorney awards in Mock Trial, and he recently was awarded an All-American witness award at the Mock Trial National Championship.
