Ethan Tong ('19 alumnus) qualified to Nationals in Moot Court both years he competed, earning an 8th place Oral Advocate award at the 2019 National Championship. In the last five years, Ethan has coached over 100 Moot Court competitors, including 11 of the 13 teams who competed in National Championship outrounds. 13 of the 16 National Oral Advocate awards were won by his students. Eight of his private students have won 1st place Oral Advocate awards throughout the year. From an administrative perspective, he co-authored NCFCA's 2023-2024 Moot Court packet and currently serves as the League Administrator of the HSMCA. Ethan graduated from Hillsdale College, where he garnered outstanding attorney and outstanding witness awards in Mock Trial, and received his Master's Degree from Truett Theological Seminary, where he was named the Robert Jackson Outstanding Student Preacher.
Jason Chahyadi (Assistant Coach)
Jason Chahyadi ('21 alumnus) is a paralegal with First Liberty Institute.
He competed for three years with PHC's Moot Court team. While there, he and his partner were finalists at the AMCA National Championship. In a nationwide league where over 470 undergraduate teams competed, he finished as the 5th best orator in the nation. Jason and his partner went 16-3 during his junior season, finishing as quarter-finalists at the Pre-National tournament and finalists in both their regional qualifier and the National Championship. Additionally, Jason won "Top Orator" awards at all three of the tournaments he competed at.
He now helps coach PHC's Varsity Moot Court team. He focuses on professionalism and winning the key "moments" of the round.
Tyler Barron (Assistant Coach)
Tyler Barron ('26 alumnus) is a nationally-ranked Moot Court competitor who won the #1 Oral Advocate Award at this year's HSMCA National Championship. Out of 116 students who have been coached by Blackstone coaches, Tyler ranks #1 overall, having placed seven times and won four oral advocate awards—4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st. He and his partner have placed top-5 both his years at the National Championship. He also won the 2026 Team Policy National Championship in NCFCA with Derek Sun.
Tyler has coached for his local club and privately, but is excited to begin coaching Moot Court. He is excited to take people from feeling lost in the caselaw to understanding the key points.
Xander Yoder (Assistant Coach)
Xander Yoder ('26 alumnus) is a nationally-ranked Moot Court competitor who won three qualifying tournaments his senior year.
He and his partner placed third at this past year's HSMCA National Championship. He also received a 3rd place Oral Advocate award during the season.
Xander is particularly excited for this year because of his knowledge of the case subject. He was invited to be on the advisory committee for this year's Moot Court packet, in large part because of his expertise in the Speech or Debate Clause. He also has extensive experience with Fourth Amendment caselaw, having participated in a whole year of 4A competition.
Evan Fairfax (Assistant Coach)
Evan Fairfax ('25 alumnus) is a sophomore at Patrick Henry College.
While in high school, Evan not only won first place at the National Championship in Extemporaneous, but also won three first-place Oral Advocate awards, including at the NCFCA Moot Court National Championship. He was the first competitor in history to do so.
At PHC, Evan was the Top Orator at the largest Moot Court competition in the nation, the Moot Court Sentinel Classic In-House Tournament. He and his partner then won the Akron Regional and qualified to the AMCA National Championship, where he advanced to quarterfinals. He was the only PHC competitor to be given an Oral Advocate at the Championship.
